Real Hot Chocolate

December 22, 2009

I’m a big fan of hot drinks, especially in the winter.
Teas of all sorts, flavored coffees, spiced cider, even just plain old warm water with some lemon squeezed in..heat it up and I’ll happily drink it.
Here’s one of my absolute favorites, though…real hot chocolate (meaning there is no water or processed hot chocolate mix involved) [...]

French Macarons for the Daring Bakers

October 27, 2009

The 2009 October Daring Bakers’ challenge was brought to us by Ami S. She chose macarons from Claudia Fleming’s The Last Course: The Desserts of Gramercy Tavern as the challenge recipe.

What a coincidence that this month’s challenge was a naturally gluten-free recipe that features almond flour (since I am giving away a signed copy of [...]

These raw chocolate cookies are seriously good. I stayed simple and followed the basic recipe [...]

Blueberry Green Smoothie

June 23, 2009

This blueberry green smoothie is a gorgeously purple and very satisfying healthy breakfast recipe that also happens to be incredibly nutrient-dense.
Blueberries are very high in antioxidants and I really love them. You could use any other seasonal, or frozen wild/organic berries in this healthy smoothie recipe, though.
I keep a large stash of berries and [...]

Homemade Protein Bars

May 29, 2009

I like the idea of protein bars because they are easy to eat on the run and theoretically, they make a healthy snack before or after exercise.
What I don’t generally like is how most of them taste, the ingredients they contain, or their prices.
There are definitely some exceptions (Lara bars are great, for [...]

Wheat Free Dark Chocolate Cupcakes

May 21, 2009

These wheat free dark chocolate cupcakes are the among the best healthy chocolate cupcake recipes I have made. Instead of the typically overconsumed and often allergenic wheat flour, they are made with nutritious spelt flour.

Spelt flour does contain gluten, so these are not gluten-free (you can find a gluten-free chocolate cake recipe here).
I usually use [...]
