A Breakfast Recipe Blog Carnival to Help Haiti

January 20, 2010 · 30 comments

in all recipes, breakfast, giving back

Like many other food bloggers, I’m having a hard time chatting about recipes and sharing pretty pics when there are so many people suffering in Haiti right now. Another earthquake hit this morning.

I’ve been touched by what many bloggers are doing to help, and I’d like to do something too. Read on to see how you can help me help Haiti.

It’s been a little over 2 weeks since 2010 started and you may have noticed that I’ve been posting a lot of recipes that are appropriate for breakfast. Why? Because eating breakfast each and every day was my main New Year’s resolution.

Yes, but what does this have to do with Haiti?

I’m interested in hearing about your favorite breakfast recipes, too. I’ve never used the “Mister Linky” widget before, but I’m going to give it a try here. Please share a link to a breakfast recipe on your blog and then leave a comment telling me about it.

Please use proper blog carnival etiquette and add a link from your recipe post back to this announcement (not my home page). If you don’t have a recipe blog, just leave me a comment about your favorite (preferably healthy) breakfast. If at least 50 people link to/comment on this post between now and Jan. 31st, I will send $50 to Haiti. If at least 100 people do so, I’ll send $100.

I’d prefer it if you link to a healthy breakfast recipe (one that contains real whole foods, with no refined flours, refined sugars, artificial sweeteners, trans-fats, or other processed ingredients), but if you don’t have one of those, any breakfast recipe will do. And if your favorite thing to eat for breakfast is chili or a turkey sandwich? Go for it. Link up. One recipe per blogger, please, and don’t forget to link to your actual post, not your home page.

Please feel free to share this post on facebook, twitter, etc. The more people who link/comment, the more money I’ll donate. I will probably split the donation between the United Nations World Food Programme for Haiti and Doctors Without Borders, but if you’ve got a favorite charity that’s working in Haiti, go ahead and tell me about it in the comments section.

If you are new to the Mister Linky Widget, here’s what you do. Type your name or the name of your blog and then in the parentheses, put the name of your recipe. In the line for the URL, put in the link to the recipe (not your home page). For example, if I wanted to share the chocolate raspberry smoothie recipe on my website, I’d put in Healthy Green Lifestyle (Chocolate Raspberry Smoothie) and then below, I’d put the link: http://www.healthy-green-lifestyle.com/chocolate-raspberry-smoothie.html…

After you input your link, remember to go back to your blog post and update it with a link back to this post (http://blog.healthy-green-lifestyle.com/a-breakfast-recipe-blog-carnival-to-help-haiti.html). You can just copy and past the following if you like, without the quotes, of course: “This post is linked to Healthy Green Kitchen’s breakfast recipe blog carnival for Haiti.”

Great idea!

I make the quiche for special occasions but for normal breakfasts I also love oatmeal with dried fruit!

I make a huge batch of porridge in my crock pot every week, and throw in a mix of grains that I have lying around. I never get tired of it because it changes from week to week.

Here is an easy recipe for biscuits that our kids love! I am anxious to try them using Kamut Khorasan Wheat soon…but our kids just adore these!

Yeasted Buckwheat Waffles … an all time favourite at home.

Served with seasonal fruit makes them even better. This is not a recent post though. Would you need a new blog post featuring breakfast or will an old one do? Will wait to hear from you.
This is a fab idea!

My blog is for posting my short essays but if you look under “recipes” you will find a scrumptious recipe for cinnamon rolls in the breadmachine.
Great initiative!!

How very timely – I just did a post a couple of weeks ago for Recipe Girl’s 10in10 challenge that’s all about healthy breakfasts. I spent a good part of last year focusing on how to make a good breakfast for my family without losing my mind along the way. Some of our family favorites are homemade muffins, French toast bake with whole wheat bread, and whole wheat waffles.

Thank you for setting up this blog carnival and for your support of those in need.

I just added my link for the cause! Thanks, Winnie!

I’ve added a favorite breakfast recipe I’ve been making for years – Breakfast Hashbrown Casserole. My prayers are with the people in Haiti!

I added a link to my vegetable pie for breakfast. This is a great idea for a great cause.

skinny bitch smoothie: 1 frozen banana, 1/2 cup frozen spinach, 1 cup other frozen fruit of your liking (ie mango, raspberries, papaya, apple, pear, etc.), 4 ice cubes, 1 1/4 cups water–blend until smooth (it sure helps to have a VitaMix blender). Yum-Oh!

My favorite easy breakfast – 1 cup organic cottage cheese, any combination of fruit (I use berries, my kids like banana) 1 tablespoon chopped raw almonds, 1 tablespoon ground flax seed

Thanks everyone…keep the comments coming!

Wendy- love green smoothies

Laura- I just had something very similar yesterday! I love org. cottage cheese w/fruit and nuts (I love banana and walnuts best)

Love the millet w/prunes. Fat-free breakfasts are often lackluster-not this one-it’s delicious. Thanks so much. Bonni

I don’t have a recipe blog so I can’t link up there, but I love when my mom makes her steel cut oatmeal. She puts in just a bit of maple syrup, raisins, flax, a few walnuts, and dried cranberries. So delicious!

This is my all time fave.. Glutino Flax Bread, Toasted with Smart or Omega Balance, topped with a soft boiled egg, sprinkle on nutritional yeast (large flake), top with a dollop of Greek yogurt and sprinkle with Sea Salt to taste. I’ve been making a variation of this one since I was 14…:)

Oops – I forgot to include the name of the post with my name — it is Island Oatmeal (vegan oatmeal with coconut milk, ginger, cloves, cinnamon, and mango, based on a recipe for Puerto Rican rice pudding).

I just found this great blog today and just saw this post moments ago — just in the nick of time before the deadline. I made a winter fruit compote this morning to bring to brunch and plan to blog it in the next couple of weeks. I hope this makes the cut — what a wonderful idea!

What a grand idea! I’ve come across your post a little late, but I hope not too late! Thank you for making a difference!
